James Parry has joined the Science Integrity Alliance as Senior Strategic Advisor

The Science Integrity Alliance is delighted to announce that James Parry has joined our Leadership Team as Senior Strategic Advisor, expanding our Executive Office. He will work closely with Executive Director Luciana Machado and our Advisory Board: Gowri Gopalakrishna, David Mellor, Sigmar de Mello Rode, Chiedozie Ike, and Jennifer Byrne.

James brings nearly two decades of leadership in research integrity and research culture, including 15 years as Chief Executive of the UK Research Integrity Office, where he shaped national and international policy and supported more than 120 research organizations. At SIA, he will focus on strengthening global partnerships, expanding membership programs, guiding governance enhancements, and contributing to our educational and thought-leadership platforms.

With interactive features, dynamic visuals, and direct links to resources, each section offers a distinct lens on the field: from spotlights on major initiatives and in-depth event coverage to innovations in tools, evolving infrastructures, policy updates, community connections, and partner profiles. The inaugural issue showcases the launch of the Science Integrity Alliance, coverage of the First U.S. National Conference on Research Integrity, an insider’s look at COPE’s evolution, and an interview with Lex Bouter—together reflecting the breadth and depth of research integrity today. Integrity Café Now Open to the Science Integrity Alliance Community

The Science Integrity Alliance is pleased to announce the launch of the Integrity Café, a new virtual gathering space for members to share timely updates, events, and resources specifically related to research integrity.

The Integrity Café offers a casual space for exchanging concise, purposeful content that helps strengthen responsible research practices. It’s your spot to share a useful resource you’ve discovered, highlight an upcoming event, or post a quick update about an initiative directly tied to research integrity.

Open to all members with a public profile, the Integrity Café complements our other channels by supporting informal yet focused exchanges.

Looking for deeper conversations? Our premium HIKE forum—designed for structured discussions on research integrity—will launch soon.

Please review our Café Etiquette before posting: share only quick, helpful items with a clear link to a specific resource, event, or integrity-related news. Posts unrelated to these, overly promotional content, and topics better suited for HIKE will be removed. Repetitive or disrespectful posts are not allowed.

Prof. Byrne Awarded 2025 David Vaux Fellowship

Prof. Jennifer Byrne has been awarded the 2025 David Vaux Research Integrity Fellowship Award by The Australian Academy of Science.

The prestigious fellowship recognizes Prof. Byrne's pioneering work in detecting and addressing problematic research articles. Her journey began when she identified concerning patterns in published cancer papers, leading to the development of specialized software for detecting potentially fabricated research. Prof. Byrne's comprehensive approach includes engaging with journals, mentoring students, and fostering dialogue between publishers and researchers to combat research misconduct.

With this fellowship, Prof. Byrne plans to conduct presentations at research centers across Australia, focusing on engaging early-career researchers and addressing contemporary challenges in scientific publishing, including paper mills and the undeclared use of AI. She will also participate in international conferences to contribute to global discussions on publication integrity.

The David Vaux Research Integrity Fellowship Award, established in 2023, honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in promoting scientific integrity.

Prof. Byrne serves as a member of the Science Integrity Alliance Advisory Board, contributing her expertise to advancing research integrity globally.
