4. Standard Fee

The SIA Subscription fee is USD 150 per year.
Subscription fees:
-
Constitute unrestricted subscription revenue, allocated solely by SIA’s Governing Authority,
-
Support platform operations, resource development, and keeping a range of educational materials openly available;
-
Are not considered a charitable donation or grant, and therefore are not tax-deductible; and
-
Fund activities aligned with SIA's public-benefit mission.

5. Reduced-Rate Subscription

Reduced subscription fees are available to:
-
Individuals residing in low- or lower-middle-income countries, based on the current World Bank Country and Lending Groups classification; and
-
Students currently enrolled at an accredited educational institution.
Residency is determined by the Subscriber's registered account address. Student status is verified through an institutional email address from an accredited education institution (for example, .edu, .ac.uk, or a comparable academic domain). Where institutional email is unavailable, SIA may accept alternative documentation at its sole discretion, such as a current student ID, official enrollment letter, or tuition receipt.
SIA reserves the right to revoke reduced-fee status if eligibility cannot be verified.

6. No Governance or Decision-Making Authority

The SIA Subscription does not grant:
-
Governance or strategic authority (for example, voting rights);
-
Influence over partner acceptance or project selection;
-
A role in determining SIA’s resource allocation or operational processes; or
-
Any influence or authority to direct or earmark how SIA subscription fees are allocated by SIA.

All decisions remain exclusively with SIA’s Governing Authority, in accordance with the Governance Framework.

7. Confidentiality and Data Protection

SIA handles all personal information provided by Subscribers with appropriate confidentiality and in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, as described in SIA's Privacy Policy.
SIA does not share personal information about Subscribers, except:
-
Information that Subscribers have voluntarily included in their public SIA profiles; or
-
As required by applicable law, a court order, or regulatory obligation.

A Subscriber's subscription type (Standard or Reduced-Rate) is not displayed on their public SIA profile and is not shared with other Subscribers or members of the community.
Subscribers do not gain access to confidential materials, internal reviews, or non-public processes. All interactions between Subscribers and SIA shall follow SIA’s Privacy Policy, Confidentiality and Competing Interests Policy, and Funding Policy.

8. Public Reporting and Transparency

Following its transition to a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), SIA will publish an Annual Public Benefit Report, in which:
-
SIA discloses aggregate Subscription data (for example, revenue totals, number of Subscribers);
-
SIA reports how subscription revenue supported platform operations and resource development; and
-
No personal or financial details of Subscribers are published.

9. Alignment with SIA’s Funding Policy

The SIA Subscription fully aligns with SIA’s Funding Policy:
Independence and integrity. SIA Subscriptions do not grant influence over SIA’s priorities, strategy, governance, or partner selection, consistent with SIA’s independence principles.
Transparent and diversified revenue. The SIA Subscription is one of SIA's permitted sources of support, helping diversify funding and reduce reliance on any single funder.
Appropriate for a PBC. SIA Subscription fees are suitable for a PBC. They are not donations and do not resemble restricted funds.
Confidentiality preserved. Names and Subscriber information are not shared without permission, except as required by law, in accordance with SIA’s confidentiality standards.
Public benefit reporting. Aggregate SIA Subscription data will be included in Annual Public Benefit Reports, fulfilling transparency commitments without compromising privacy.

10. Term, Renewal, and Cancellation

SIA Subscriptions are valid for twelve (12) months and renew each year automatically, with advance notice sent to the Subscriber at least three days before renewal.
-
Canceled subscriptions remain active until the end of the current term.
-
Subscription fees are not considered charitable donations or grants and are not tax-deductible.
-
SIA reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue subscription offerings, benefits, or eligibility criteria at any time. Such changes will not materially reduce benefits for Subscribers during an active subscription term unless required by circumstances beyond SIA’s reasonable control (see Terms of Use). Any adjustments will apply to future renewals or new subscriptions, and Subscribers will be notified in advance whenever reasonably possible.
-
SIA may terminate a subscription without refund for reasons including, but not limited to
-
Violation of these Terms and Conditions;
-
Violation of SIA’s Terms of Use or Code of Conduct;
-
Failure to pay subscription fees;
-
Providing false or misleading information; or
-
Conduct that, in SIA's sole discretion, is harmful to the organization, its leadership, advisors, staff, contractors, partners, Subscribers, or the broader research community.
-
-
SIA reserves the right to terminate a subscription for other reasons as necessary to protect the organization's integrity and mission. In such cases, a pro-rata refund will be issued for the unused portion of the subscription term.
-
Subscription benefits, fees, and terms are reviewed annually to ensure they remain aligned with community needs. Fees and offerings may be adjusted as necessary, with advance notice provided to Subscribers.

11. Amendments

SIA may update these Terms and Conditions to remain consistent with its Governance Framework, Funding Policy, and public-benefit commitments. Subscribers will be notified of significant updates. Continued use of the SIA Subscription after such updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms and Conditions.

12. Applicable Law

The SIA Subscription and its terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its choice of law or conflict of law provisions that would otherwise require the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction.
