Reporting Guideline for Observational Studies Released

The TARGET (TrAnsparent ReportinG of studies Emulating a Target trial) guideline provides a checklist to improve reporting of observational studies of interventions. It helps researchers identify their study as a target-trial emulation, define the causal question, align design elements, and report results transparently.

Peer Review of Datasets Now Possible

PREreview.org has launched an open dataset review workflow, starting with support for Dryad. Users can now request and post dataset reviews just as they do for preprints. Reviews receive DOIs and can be cited, with future plans to expand support to other research outputs such as dynamic figures and computational notebooks.

DataCite Metadata Integrated in OpenAlex

OpenAlex has incorporated over 92 million DataCite DOIs through a new integration that strengthens the discoverability and connectivity of open research. The update expands OpenAlex’s coverage to include diverse outputs such as datasets, preprints, dissertations, and software. The integration goes live across all OpenAlex interfaces on November 1, 2025.

Code Sharing Resource in Development

The Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science is developing a resource to improve code sharing in health research, establishing standards to make shared code more interpretable and useful. Experts in health research, publishing, or reproducible code are invited to join feedback sessions to guide its development.
