NIH Accelerates Public Access Timeline

The National Institutes of Health moved up implementation of its revised Public Access Policy by six months, from December 31, 2025, to July 1, 2025. The policy eliminates the previous 12-month embargo period, requiring immediate public access to NIH-funded research through PubMed Central upon publication.

TOP Guidelines Updated for 2025

The Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines have been updated in 2025 to include seven Research Practices, two Verification Practices, and four Verification Study types. The update reflects feedback from journal implementers and maintains the three-level implementation system (Disclose, Share and Cite, or Certify).

Retraction Watch Data Now in Crossref

The Retraction Watch database is now available through Crossref’s REST API following its 2023 acquisition by the digital infrastructure organization. This provides broader retraction coverage and enables new research integrity tool development. The continuously updated list remains accessible as a CSV file on the Crossref Retraction Watch GitLab repository.
